Enzyme Therapy for Sinusitis
Antigens, bacteria, yeast, and other toxins enter the body through the
digestive tract. They leech onto food substances we ingest and then
multiply prolifically within the body of the immune system if it is not
strong and healthy enough to destroy them. Allergens (substances
causing the allergy) can also enter the body simply through the air that
we breathe. Most antigens, bacteria, viruses, and yeasts are
proteins. Often the toxins that are causing allergies and infections
are secreted by bacteria which also contain protein substances. At this
point it can be understood that the body needs a tremendous supply of
protease (protein digestive enzymes) to counteract the constant
bombardment of these proteins, so to digest and eliminate them. This
digestion of protein is done by enzymes, not only in the digestive
tract, but in the bloodstream itself. Undigested proteins are often
found in the bloodstream. If digestion is not properly accomplished,
undigested substances can be absorbed through the digestive tract (leaky gut syndrome).
Antigens that cause allergies attach themselves to these proteins in
the blood, deposit in the walls of tiny capillaries, and secrete
substances that cause inflammations which result in swellings, sneezing,
hayfever, hives, sinusitis and asthma, etc.
In order for the body to rid itself of the allergen, it must be separated from the protein molecule. This is accomplished by enzymes that digest the protein and release the allergen so the body can eliminate it via the lymphatic system. This is why it is so important to keep the lymphatic system clean.
The importance of understanding why undigested proteins, bacteria, and yeast entering the blood via the intestinal wall (leaky gut syndrome) have toxic effects on one’s system cannot be stressed strongly enough. Their quick and proliferate spreading often leaves the body with numerous symptoms and physical indications. Candida Albicans, which lives practically everywhere in the body, is an example of such a yeast. These yeasts live naturally in the intestinal tract. It is important to realize that yeast is also protein bodies and can be digested by enzymes, if the body has a proper supply.
Yeast and most antigens (being protein bodies) can be eliminated by administering digestive supplemental enzymes. This nourishes the white blood cells which causes direct improvement of the immune system. However, some allergies are not in themselves protein bodies. They attach to protein molecules and must be split off from the molecule by doing enzymes therapy (proteolytic enzymes) and then be eliminated by the lymphatic system.

The Use of Enzyme Therapy to Naturally Help Heal Sinusitis
In natural therapeutics, all diseases are considered to be systemic problems. This means that all body processes are involved. To bring about favorable results, the whole body must be influenced in a positive direction. In considering sinusitis, one must also consider addressing candida and allergies, both in their causes and their prevention.
Basically the symptoms of both maladies are caused by the body’s attempt to resist the organisms or toxins that tend to damage tissues and organs. This capacity is called immunity. A major part of our immune system consists of several types of white blood cells such as lymphocytes, macrophages, T-cells, B-cells and neutrophils. These parts of the immune system become sensitized to specific toxins or antigens (substances that cause immune responses, such as toxins, drugs, among a few) and attack them whenever they enter the body.
The white blood cells are, therefore, equipped to destroy antigens and other toxins by engulfing them and digesting them and destroying their substances, making it easier for the body to eliminate them. In most cases, they do this by secreting enzymes that break down the antigens. Research has shown as far back as 1929 that white blood cells contain enzymes!

How to choose an effective proteolytic enzyme formula:
• Proteolytic enzymes, or proteases, are enzymes which decompose protein. Protein is made up of about 20 amino acids. Therefore, a good proteolytic enzymes formula must have enzymes that decompose all the different amino acids. This is why you want to make sure the enzymes formula that you purchase has bromelain enzymes. Bromelain is pineapple enzymes and is a protease. This is why bromelain is capable of breaking the bonds between the building block molecules of protein. Research shows bromelain is capable of splitting 30,000 chemical bonds per second and release the same number of amino acids from a protein!
• The proteolytic enzymes formula you choose should include papain enzymes from papayas. Papain will digest most protein substrates more extensively than the pancreatic proteases.
• The proteolytic enzymes formula you choose should include the enzymes serratiopeptidase. Serratiopeptidase is a powerful proteolytic enzyme that is known to fight mucous and inflammation in the body. Serratiopeptidase is isolated from a non-pathogenic enterobacterium. This bacteria is cultured through batch fermentation so it is absolutely safe and has been used in Japan for over 30 years as one of the top therapeutic enzymes.
• Unlike the digestive enzymes, proteolytic enzymes must be absorbed into the bloodstream in order to be effective. Therefore, the proteolytic enzymes formula you buy must be protected in some way with an acid-resistant coating so that the proteolytic enzymes can pass through the acidic stomach intact when you take them on empty stomach. The best proteolytic enzymes should not be tablets that are enterically coated and have tabletizing agents, but should be a powder in vegetarian capsules. The enzymes powder is usually microbial enzymes produced to be acid-resistant and, therefore, can resist the low pH of the stomach and pass onto the small intestine to do their work.
• Proteolytic enzymes need helpers in order to function optimally. These helpers are called cofactors and coenzymes and mostly include vitamins and minerals. Therefore, when choosing a proteolytic enzymes formula, choose a formula that has a vitamin and mineral rich organic food such as organic micro algae. The micro algae maximizes enzymes activity.
Important note: Do not confuse digestive enzymes with proteolytic enzymes therapy. They are different types of enzymes.
